I built a llama card game

Llama Legends is a free browser card collector with an idle economy, a PvE arena, ten challenge towers, and community raids. I am Sven, the solo developer behind LamaZ Game Studio. I released the game on 15 December 2025, and it has been free since day one.

Why a llama card game

#

I wanted a card game I could open in a browser tab, play for ten minutes, and come back to later. Most collectible card games ask for a download, a store account, or a budget. I wanted the opposite: one click, no install, no shop that sells power.

Llamas became the theme because they are funny without trying. A llama in a detective coat or a llama with a laser sword works as a card. That gave me room for parody, pop culture references, and a collection that does not take itself too seriously.

What the game is

#

Llama Legends is a browser card collector with an idle economy and a turn based PvE combat layer. You open booster packs, collect more than 600 cards, build a team of five, train the cards, and take them into the Arena, the Challenge Towers, and community raids.

The game has six public rarity tiers, ten themed booster packs, ten permanent towers, four seasonal event towers, four training modes, 23 achievement categories, and full English and German localisation. The whole thing runs on Cloudflare Pages with Firebase for accounts and cloud saves.

How a session works

#

A normal session is short. Claim the daily gift, finish the daily missions, start expeditions and patrols, then spend the coins on a pack or a work upgrade. If you have more time, run an Arena attempt or join a raid.

The idle layer keeps working while you are away. Work llamas earn coins, expeditions return XP, and patrols bring resources. The game calculates the offline earnings when you come back, so a break does not erase progress.

Why it stays free

#

There are no ads inside the game, no purchases, and no pay to win. Every card, pack, tower, and cosmetic can be earned through play. The game is funded by the portals where it is listed, not by selling power to players.

That model has a cost: the game grows at the speed of one person. I choose the updates I can finish, and I ship them when they are ready. The alternative, a shop with card bundles, would make the collection meaningless to me.

How the art is made

#

I use AI art. I know it is a controversial topic, and I would rather be direct about it than hide it. As a solo developer with no budget, I could not create a game with more than 600 unique cards and keep it free any other way.

The art is generated, selected, and edited to fit the card frame, the rarity, and the joke. The design work, the card text, the game code, and the balance are mine. If you do not want to support AI art, that is a fair position, and I would rather you know before you play.

How it compares

#

Most card collectors ask for a download, a store account, or a budget. Llama Legends runs in a browser tab and every card is earned through play. The table below is a quick comparison with games that players often mention in the same breath.

About me

#

My name is Sven von Bandel. I live in Braunschweig, Germany, and I develop Llama Legends alone under the name LamaZ Game Studio. I write the code, design the systems, write the card text, and handle the updates. The community on Discord helps with bug reports, balance feedback, and the occasional llama pun.

If you want to follow the development, the Discord server is the fastest channel. I post patch notes, event news, and promo codes there first.
